What truly sets us apart from the so-called “leading” DJ companies in the area is our team. We’re a small, tight-knit group of real DJs who have known each other for years—through nightclub residencies, the music industry, and radio. Bigger DJ companies often hire through help-wanted ads, bringing in anyone with a playlist and some equipment. Their focus is on volume, not quality. Jason, on the other hand, is extremely selective about who joins our roster. When you book with us, you know exactly who you’re getting: an experienced DJ who can mix, create seamless transitions, and control the energy of a crowd. With large companies, you can’t always be sure—you might get a seasoned pro, or you might get someone working their very first wedding. If you’re ever unsure, ask to see real proof of their work. Any DJ worth hiring should be able to show live mixes on Instagram or TikTok, not just highlight reels of guests line dancing (because let’s be honest—anyone can get a crowd to do that).
We’ve officially been in business just as long as our competitors, but our experience stretches much further back—some of us were DJing our own junior high/middle school dances in the ‘90s and early 2000s. Unlike many competitors, we never pushed for reviews or offered incentives. For years, we let feedback come in naturally. But being a DJ is about more than playing tracks—it’s about coordinating the show. We take the stress off your shoulders by helping you plan, guiding the flow of the reception, and making sure your night feels effortless. At Jason Kent Sound & Lighting, we don’t do cookie-cutter weddings. We’re real DJs who are trained through experience to read a crowd, mix live, and deliver the perfect vibe at the perfect time. Sometimes that means scratching and beat-matching to keep the floor alive with jaw-droppng transitions, other times it’s about knowing when to step back and let the moment breathe. Because we know music inside and out, every genre is fair game, and every guest—whether 8 or 80—will find themselves on the dance floor. 3. Is your music edited?
Yes! About 95% of our music library is edited. Many couples ask us to keep it clean during dinner and the formalities and switch to unedited versions after a certain time, and we're happy to do that. Just let us know your preference at your final consultation.
4. Do you honor Do-Not-Play lists?
Yes! We are happy to honor Do-Not-Play lists. There is a field in your account where you may provide a list of specific songs or artists you would prefer not to hear at your event, and we will make sure they are avoided.
You are also welcome to provide a Must-Play list. To help us maintain a smooth flow and keep the dance floor energized, we recommend limiting Do-Not-Play lists to around 20 songs and Must-Play lists to approximately 50 songs.
In our experience, events are most successful when couples give their DJ some creative flexibility. Our job is to read the room, mix music appropriately, and keep guests engaged throughout the night. When you trust us to do what we do best, it often leads to a more consistent dance floor and an overall better experience for everyone.
If you have very specific expectations regarding song selection or the exact order of music, please let us know in advance so we can discuss the best way to accommodate your vision.
5. What do you guys typically wear to a formal event or wedding?
We always show up in the proper attire to match your event. Our typical wedding attire consists of a button up shirt, tie, vest, dress pants/slacks, and dress shoes.
If your event has a theme, we will discuss matching our attire with your theme.
6. Do you DJ only one wedding or event per night? Also, is there a backup DJ for my event?
Your wedding or event deserves our undivided attention and complete focus, so we only book ONE event per DJ for each date. We are not that DJ company that has 5 other DJ's to manage, and multiple events to manage per night. We have a maximum of two main wedding DJ's at an event at any given night, and another backup DJ just incase something should happen. Let's face it, it's hard to find a responsible DJ, let alone a team of them. Just saying "Responsible DJ" can be an oxymoron in our industry. We like to keep our circle small to better manage what's going on, and it reflects in the satifaction of our clients. You get our full, undivided attention. You don't have to share us with any other couples on your special day!
7. What makes you different from the budget DJ that’s charging 3-400 dollars on Craigslist?
Professionalism, reliability, and experience DJing hundreds of weddings and events. We are full time music professionals. Dj equipment is not cheap, and reliable Dj equipment is even more costly. I wonder if the DJ who charges $400 per wedding can afford to keep his equipment up-to-date and pay for necessary expenses? Probably not. We are willing to bet he doesn’t have proper mic etiquette. 8. Can you guys mix or blend together songs (or edit them) for one of our special dances? Can we get a copy of the mix before our event so we can practice?
Yes! We can either blend/mix it live at your event, or we can record our performance and send you the mp3 via email to practice to. We have a recording and mixing studio on Jefferson Street in downtown Toledo. Not only do we have the necessary equipment to get your mix right, we have the skills too!
9. We live outside of NW Ohio, do you travel?
Yes, but there are additional fee's that will need to be discussed. Contact us.
10. We were looking at another DJ service and they listed the specs of their system. Why isn't your specs listed on your website?
We have three different systems we use depending on the size of the room and guests in attendance that will be more than sufficiant for any room size, but in our experience the loudness of the music takes a back seat to the dj's integrity, classiness, ability to play the right music at the right times, and mix it like a pro. Room size, acoustics, and number of people in the room are all important factors of music sounding great, not just the dj's equipment. Please be weary of dj services who use wattage and specs as the most important factor, because that usually means they lack greatly in other areas.
11. How much is the deposit?
The deposit does not lock you into any package or extra service, it simply guarantee's we will hold the date for you. Deposits are $250.
12. When is the remaining balance due?
Your remaining balance is due the day before your event. You can make payments over time through your online account whenever you like before then.
13. Can we see/hear what you do?
Yes! You can check us out on IG under @dj_jason_kent, and also now our brand new (and extremely popular) TikTok account at @dj.jason.kent. Also, we are the only are Wedding DJ service that has mixes on our website you may listen to. These mixes are not tailored to your specific crowd, they are a mix of songs that have packed the floor at weddings we have done in the past, or they are one of our mix shows that we put together for radio. You may find these mixes on our Meet Our DJs page for each DJ. You will hear the talent that sets us apart from other "DJs" in the area. Jason Kent Sound and Lighting packages are $1,799 (Platinum), $2,299 (Diamond) and $2,899 (Deluxe) for peak-season dates before discounts. Friday, Sunday, off-season, preferred-venue and public-service (military, veteran and public safety) discounts can lower the price. The Northwest Ohio average for a reputable DJ is about $1,700. Discounts combine up to $500 and no package goes below $1,500.

Yes with Diamond and Deluxe when the ceremony is close to the reception in time and location (a different location adds $50). We use battery-powered ceremony sound and Shure SLX-D digital wireless mics, and can edit your processional music to fit.
Eight uplights are included with Diamond and Deluxe for weddings in 2027 or later booked on/after October 1, 2026. Otherwise uplights are $300.
Yes: $600 added to a DJ package for the whole event, or $800 standalone for 3 hours. Printing is +$100.

No travel fee within 70 miles (one way) of your assigned DJ; beyond that it is $1.50 per mile. Our DJs live in Toledo, Findlay and Lima, so most of Northwest Ohio has no travel fee.
The $250 deposit is non-refundable. Cancel 60-90 days out: deposit + $200. 30-60 days: deposit + $300. Within 30 days: deposit + the full remaining balance.
Each DJ books one event per date and a backup DJ is on call. If your DJ cannot perform, a qualified replacement steps in; if none could be found you would get a full refund.
Yes, we carry business liability insurance and can send a certificate of insurance to your venue.

Your date isn't reserved until the $250 deposit is paid. If you're still comparing DJs, we'll hold your date for 7 days. If you've told us you're booking with us, we'll hold it for up to 30 days while you arrange the deposit. Because other couples may be asking about the same date, if we don't hear back within 48 hours of a message that needs your response, we may release the date to the next inquiry. You're always welcome to check the date again afterward.
Yes. A holiday surcharge applies on New Year's Eve, Christmas Eve, Valentine's Day, July 3rd, the Fourth of July and Halloween. Your instant quote shows the exact amount.
A few weeks before your wedding you'll get an email with a link to schedule your final consultation, usually the Monday or week before the wedding, by phone or Zoom. Before then you can call, text or email with questions any time, and we're happy to set up an earlier call if you'd like.

Yes. After the $250 deposit you can make payments in any amount, as often as you like, through your online account. The full balance is due the day before the event.
Your date is assigned to one of our DJs when you register, and your DJ and their contact info are listed in your account. You can request a specific DJ and we'll honor it when they're available. The price is the same no matter which DJ you get.
Typically one DJ performs and runs your event.
Not required, since we bring our own setup, but a table from the venue is always appreciated.
It's not required, but it's greatly appreciated since we're working through the whole day. Our DJs have no dietary restrictions.
About two hours before the first music is needed. For a 4:00 PM ceremony or cocktail hour, plan on the DJ arriving around 2:00 PM.
